Hassan Aref, Secretary of the Executive Congress Committee of IUTAM, died suddenly on September 10, 2011. He was elected Secretary of the Executive Congress Committee of IUTAM during the 2008 General Assembly in Adelaide. He will be sorely missed.

Hassan Aref, a GOOD man! Great academic and scientific administrator.
He not only facilitated full sponsorship for me to present my accepted lecture paper at the ictam2000, but did all he could to secure USA travel visa; although, that exceptional efforts were eventually frustrated by the USA State Department and the Embassy in Nigeria. This news of his sudden demise has come to me as a rude shock. He served humanity.
Good Memory of Him Lingers on.
